Dr. Senthil Selvaraj Wins 2019 IANC Research Fellowship Award

ASNC congratulates Senthil Selvaraj, MD, recipient of the prestigious Institute for the Advancement of Nuclear Cardiology (IANC) Research Fellowship Award. The award will be presented at ASNC2019, Sept. 12-15, in Chicago.
Dr. Selvaraj's research proposal “Comparison of the Short-Term Effect of Dietary Carbohydrate Restriction Versus Exogenous Ketone Supplementation on Myocardial Glucose Suppression and Timing to Achieve a State of Ketosis Using Serial Imaging on a State-of-the Art Total-Body PET System” aims to compare dietary modification versus exogenous therapy to achieve ketosis that will optimize PET imaging for cardiac sarcoid as well as identify serum metabolic markers that can be used to confirm appropriate suppression of myocardial glucose uptake to improve the detection of cardiac sarcoid.

The IANC Research Fellowship Award was established to encourage and support careers in nuclear cardiology research while growing the science of cardiac imaging and advancing the specialty. Dr. Selvaraj's proposal was selected among “several excellent research proposals submitted by early investigators,” notes ASNC President Rob Beanlands, MD, FASNC. “The grant review committee had a challenging time identifying the most meritorious grant from all of the applications. The quality of these grants are the product of hard work and intellectual curiosity on the part of the applicants and great support from their mentors. I hope that the ASNC community will continue to support the mission of the IANC to develop the future leaders of nuclear cardiology.”

Dr. Selvaraj is a cardiology fellow at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He will present the finding of his research at ASNC2020, Sept. 24-27 in Washington, D.C.

Krishna Patel, MD, who received the first IANC Research Fellowship Award in 2018, will share the outcomes of her research project, “Patient-centered Reporting in Myocardial Perfusion Imaging: Development and Pilot-testing a Framework for Incorporating Patient-centered Decision Support in MPI Reports” at ASNC2019.  Don't miss her presentation on Friday, Sept. 13, in the session “Machine Learning in SPECT MPI Applications.” Learn more about Dr. Patel's work.
