Aetna Announces Accreditation Requirements for Imaging Labs

April 15, 2011

Beginning January 1, 2012, Aetna will implement a new imaging accreditation requirement for all non-hospital suppliers of the technical component of advanced diagnostic imaging services, including CT, MR, PET, SPECT, and echocardiography.

With the exception of the echocardiography requirement, Aetna's announcement is in line with new federal rules requiring suppliers of advanced imaging services to be accredited by a designated accreditation organization for purposes of reimbursement by the same date.
